Di cosa parla House of Cards?
In seguito alle dimissioni di Margareth Tatcher, il Partito ha bisogno di un nuovo leader e Francis Urquhart, un membro del Parlamento che si occupa dei collegamenti tra il partito e il suo leader, propone la nomina di Henry "Hal" Collingridge. Tra i due c'è un accordo ufficioso: se Hal viene eletto come Primo Ministro, Francis verrà promosso all'interno del suo entourage occupando una posizione rilevante nel Parlamento. Dopo le elezioni generali, Hal viene effettivamente eletto e Francis suggerisce un "rimpasto" del governo per ottenere la promozione che gli è stata assicurata. Tuttavia Hal è convinto che questa manovra politica gli potrebbe arrecare più danni che benefici e decide di non effettuare nessun tipo di cambiamento, suscitando le ire di Francis che a questo punto decide di vendicarsi.

Urquhart’s ruthless scheming has worked. As the leadership election looms, all his leading rivals have been discredited. But even though the obstacles in his way have been erased, there is still no guarantee of his winning. Meanwhile, by the process of reason and elimination, the truth is beginning to dawn on Mattie, though she can hardly bring herself to believe that “Daddy” is not what he seems. As for Urquhart, he has too much to lose now to let sentiment stand in his way. He will go to any lengths to prevent her, or anyone else, from finding out just what he has done to gain power.
